The Montana Prevention Project

At the Montana Prevention Project, we believe prevention works best when it meets people right where they are. We are designed to reach across all ages and walks of life, creating communities where hope grows, connections are strong, and prevention is part of everyday life.

Serving Montana

The Montana Prevention Project aims to serve a diverse range of demographics, ensuring that prevention resources are accessible to everyone:

  • Youth (10–17): Creating safe spaces for learning and healthy decision-making.
  • Young Adults (18–25): Helping young adults stay safe and build a strong foundation for the future.
  • Adults (26–54): Supporting families, workplaces, and communities to break cycles of harm.
  • Older Adults (55+): Promoting wellness, safety, and connection at every stage of life.
  • Rural & Frontier Towns: Bringing prevention to small communities across Montana.
  • Tribal Nations & Native Families: Honoring culture, tradition, and the strengths of Native communities.
  • Justice-Involved Neighbors: Supporting those re-entering communities after incarceration.
  • LGBTQIA2S+ Community: Ensuring inclusive and affirming prevention efforts.
  • People in Recovery & Families: Standing with those walking the path of healing.
  • Veterans & Service Members: Honoring unique needs with prevention rooted in care and respect.

Our Primary Goals

Our goals at the Montana Prevention Project stem from real needs seen across the state. We aim to:

  • Provide early support and encouragement to teenagers in small towns.
  • Equip working parents with tools, resources, and community support.
  • Offer immediate help to individuals after an overdose, including naloxone and peer support.
  • Create prevention programs led by and for Native families, respecting their culture and traditions.
  • Meet veterans, older adults, and those returning from incarceration with compassion and practical support.
  • Ensure that the next generation grows up in a state where prevention is woven into everyday life.

Measuring Success

We measure our success through:

  • Stronger youth outcomes, such as reduced risky behavior and increased school engagement.
  • Families that feel supported and more connected.
  • Lives saved through interventions like naloxone.
  • Increased community involvement in prevention efforts.
  • Long-term reductions in overdoses and substance use, and stronger communities.

Community Engagement

We engage with local Montana communities by bringing prevention, harm reduction, and recovery support across the Hi-Line from Glacier County to the North Dakota border and everywhere in between including:

  • Fort Peck
  • Fort Belknap
  • Blackfeet Nation
  • Rocky Boy’s Reservation
  • Great Falls & Cascade County

Our approach involves partnering with Tribal Health, elders, youth leaders, law enforcement, treatment providers, schools, and faith communities to tailor programs to meet the unique needs of each community.
